Hi Leif. The part-A resin is 0.80 gallons and the part-B hardener is 0.20 gallons for a total of 1 gallon. Purchase six cheap 5 quart paint mixing buckets from your local home improvement center. Mix each batch in a new container and then pour it into a fresh paint tray to apply. Garage Flooring LLC has the data sheets and application instructions here. Don't reuse a mixing bucket because the older epoxy that is curing in it will affect the new batch. Cut in some of the edges with the first mixed batch for each coat. Just make sure not to get too far ahead because it's important to keep a wet edge. You might want to cut in part of the floor with each batch. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to give them a call and ask for Justin. He is great with helping people out with their application questions and offers great advice.

Ok so I have my 6 part A and part B cans of TrueLock for two coats. Do I mix each gallon and quart in a 5 gallon bucket separately because of use time? Can I keep reusing the same 5 gallon bucket. Do I need to wash it out between each gallon. Also, should I cut in the edges with a brush first?
Thanks!

Garage Flooring LLC recommends two color coats for the best durability, but you can get by with one color coat of epoxy if you opt for the clear coat. Just make sure not to exceed 260 square feet per gallon of the epoxy. We would recommend mixing in the anti-slip media to the clear coat based on where you live.

She’s that helps a ton. Thanks. My garage is 760 sq ft and like u said, I did notice the price is higher with rock solid. Would you recommend 2 coats of TrueLock before the clear or just 1 if I’m doing the clear?
Also, is anti-skid necessary... I live in New England.
Thanks,
Leif

In reply to Leif.

Hello Leif. RockSolid has a slightly better abrasion rating and it's more glossy. However, it's not 20x stronger than epoxy as the misleading marketing suggests. They are comparing their product to epoxy paint which is not even a coating. The biggest complaint about RockSolid is that it has issues with color uniformity and patchy gloss due to over generous coverage rates and other issues. You can learn more about this in our updated article about RockSolid. There are plenty of reader's comments that may help. Those that have not had cosmetic issues and/or applied it at reduced coverage rates seem to be satisfied with it.

TrueLock Epoxy doesn't have the color uniformity issues. It's also less expensive. 2 gallons of TrueLock Epoxy will cover 520 square feet at a cost of approximately $180. The 520 square feet is a legitimate coverage rate for 2 gallons and not overly generous. A 2.5 garage RockSolid kit has a stated coverage rate of 450 - 500 square feet at an average cost of $214.. You will rarely if ever get 500 square feet with it. Those that try always have cosmetic issues.

If you plan on using a clear coat to protect the color flakes and color coat, RockSolid uses the same product. It's just not tinted to give you color. TrueLock clear is an aliphatic polyurethane. It's glossy, has a high coverage rate, and most importantly, the abrasion rating is much higher than RockSolid. This means that it will wear much better and show less scratches from normal wear. I hope that helps.
