Hi Bruce. I don't know what to tell you. That's poor quality service from a contractor. We provide the remedy in our article if you want to fix it yourself.

Hi Nathan. I'm assuming that a high performance clear coat of some type was applied. If so, you can touchup as you described, but the problem is that coatings do not blend together well like touchup paint on a wall. The areas you touch up will be somewhat noticeable with a slightly different sheen and you will be able to see where the clear overlaps the older clear coat. If it's a small area, then you can probably get away with it and the only person that will notice is you. If it's a larger area, then the best bet is to sand the entire flooring surface and recoat it with clear.

I have a few spots on my garage floor that are rough, with the flakes sticking out of the topcoat. Can I just sand the rough spots and apply a new topcoat to just those spots or do I have to sand the entire garage floor and topcoat the entire surface?
