Hi Shea,
I have installed one coat of Rocksolid Polycuramine garage floor covering, i want happy with the amount of chips i broadcast , so what i did was put the clear coat on and added plenty of chips , looks great now !
question is , can i put another layer of Rocksolid clear topcoat on ?
cheers
Chris
Shea says
Yes you can Chris! RockSolid allows up to 7 days to recoat. If you wait longer than that you need to rough up the surface first before recoating.
Cecilia Gonzales says
Can you use epoxy coatings on a wooden floor stairwell?
Shea says
Epoxy can be applied to wood Cecilia, but it’s not the best application for stairs. It can be slippery when wet unless you use ample anti-slip additive.
Mufazal A. Qadir says
I have read all your articles on various epoxy choices. I have a garage floor which has some oil paches which could be removed completely. You suggested to go with thepremium multi-coat epoxy.
Can you suggest premium multi-coat epoxy for DIY. I can go with.
Will also apply the clear coat as you suggested.
Loved to read all your articles
Your prompt reply would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Mufazal.

Hello Mufazal. There are many good quality products to choose from. We suggest pricing out what some of our sponsors have available. EpoxyMaster, Legacy Industrial, Garage Flooring LLC, and ArmorPoxy are great examples. They all sell multi-coat high solids epoxy systems that we know to be excellent.
Dale says
Can I apply a new coat of color and then a coat of clear on a 6 year old floor with polycuramine
Shea says
Hello Dale. The short answer to your question is yes. Are you sure it’s polycurimine though? The reason I ask is that it was first developed for commercial use about five years ago. If you are sure it is polyucuramine or you know for a fact that it’s a resinous coating and not paint, then we have an article here that explains just how you can do what you are asking.

I have a 45 year old townhome with a 2-car garage. In all my research, it seems the best way for me to redo my garage floor is by using mats. Would you recommend a roll-out mat or the interlocking system. I use the garage solely for parking and storing excess stuff. Am not the best DIY person, but i need to spend as little as i can.
Shea says
Hello Becky. Roll-out mats would be the lease expensive option and they are the easiest option in terms of installation. Garage Flooring LLC is good resource that we can recommend for that. The interlocking tiles are very nice for a variety of reasons, but they would be more expensive. Installation is easy as well, but it does require cutting the tiles to trim in for the walls. Either option would do very well for your purposes.
Eddie Woods says
Can I use an epoxy finish on my driveway in addition to the garage?
What are the negatives if used on the driveway?
What companies have a finish that looks like concrete?
Shea says
Hi Eddie. No, epoxy is an indoor coating only. The constant U.V. rays will cause it to yellow and deteriorate. Coatings generally are not used on driveways. The main reason is that they don’t look natural and they can be slippery when exposed to all the elements. If you want something that looks like concrete, then you need to do a polymer-modified cement micro topping or overlay.
Karen Estes says
Recommend the best rubber tile for garage that you can park cars on and use as a home gym
Shea says
Hi Karen. What you would need to use if you will be parking cars on it as well would be PVC interlocking tiles. We discuss them in second half of this article here.
Rick says
Is it OK to use a water based Urethane (Supercoat550) as a topcoat over an oil based, high solids epoxy (Rustoleum Professional)?
Should it be applied when the epoxy is no longer tacky?
Shea says
Hello Rick. 2-part epoxy coatings are not oil based. If you are using Rust-Oleum Professional EpoxyShield, then you would be applying a solvent-based epoxy coating. The Supercoat polyurethane would need to be applied within 12-24 hours of the EpoxyShield. Once you can press a thumb to the coating without leaving a print it will be ready for the clear coat. However, we would not recommend Supercoat 550 if it’s for a garage floor. Water-based polyurethanes are not very resistant to black tire marks and hard to remove. A solvent-based polyurethane would be a better choice for a garage environment.
Linda Pepin says
Thanks for all the great info. We are about to build our forever home in Florida and are planning on coating our new 3 car garage just after we close on the house. Since this is new construction will we need to do anything to the garage floor besides etch it before applying the Rocksolid? We would like to do this before we move anything into the house. Thanks so much for your informative web site. I’ve learned quite a bit.
Shea says
Hi Linda. No, etching should be all that is required. Because RockSolid is a thin coating, just be prepared for the possibility of having to apply a second color coat.
oliver says
No one says how much cost. Is this work free?
Shea says
Hi Oliver. These images are posted to give people ideas. We don’t have pricing assigned since some are done DIY and others are done professionally. Prices vary from year to year as well.
